As followers of Christ, we are called to be the voice, salt, and light in our generation. This means standing firm in truth, influencing the world for good, and reflecting God’s presence wherever we go. However, many of the challenges we face today are not just physical or social issues—they are spiritual battles. Recognizing this truth equips us to stand strong in faith and take meaningful action.
The Bible is clear that there is a spiritual battle happening around us. Romans 1:28–32 describes how rejecting God’s truth leads to a depraved mind, filled with wickedness, strife, and deception. This isn’t just a historical issue—it’s something we see in today’s world.
What does spiritual warfare look like?
It’s not always dramatic or obvious. It can be as simple as battling negative thoughts, overcoming fear, or standing firm in faith when culture pressures us to compromise. The enemy works through deception, division, and destruction, but as believers, we are called to resist and stand in God’s truth.
In Matthew 27:24, Pilate famously washed his hands of Jesus’ fate, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. It is your responsibility!” Instead of standing for truth, he chose to remain neutral—a dangerous place to be in a spiritual battle.
How often do we do the same? Maybe we avoid speaking up when we should, or we let fear stop us from acting in faith. True discipleship means being willing to stand firm, even when it’s difficult.
Jesus gives us the perfect example of how to lead in a spiritual battle—not through power or control, but through serving others. In Matthew 20:25–28, He says, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”
How does serving help us stand in spiritual battles?
We don’t have to look far to see division, chaos, and brokenness in our world. But what role do spiritual forces play in these conflicts?
Understanding our position as God’s voice, salt, and light means actively engaging in spiritual battles with faith, love, and truth. Instead of standing on the sidelines like Pilate, we must stand firm in God’s truth and take action.
As we step into our calling, we can trust that greater is He who is for us than all those things that are against us (1 John 4:4).
