You're walking through life and hear two voices calling your name.
One is calm, thoughtful, and grounded.
The other? Flashy, loud, and fun—but something about it feels...off.
Which one do you follow?
That’s the exact setup in Proverbs 9, where we meet two symbolic women:
Lady Wisdom and Madam Folly.
Both are inviting you into their home.
But only one will nourish your soul.
The other? She’s selling a feast that leads to death.
In verses 1–6, we meet Wisdom:
“Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars… she has prepared her meat and mixed her wine.”
She’s not rushing. She’s not desperate.
She’s already done the work—and she’s inviting you to something lasting.
Now flip the page to verses 13–18:
Here comes Folly.
“Folly is an unruly woman; she is simple and knows nothing.”
She’s loud. She’s careless. She also calls out to the simple.
But her food? It’s stolen. Her guests? Already in the grave—and don’t even know it.
That’s the danger.
On the surface, Folly sounds just like Wisdom.
Both call out.
Both promise satisfaction.
But one brings growth—and the other brings regret.
Remember that “too good to be true” investment you passed on because your gut said no?
Or the moment you didn’t respond in anger and avoided a relationship meltdown?
Those were Wisdom’s whispers.
But maybe you’ve also followed a Folly moment—like that one weekend that started with “just one drink” and ended in consequences you still regret.
We’ve all stepped into the wrong house before.
The good news? Proverbs 9 shows us how to choose differently—daily.
What “invitations” are calling out to you in this season—Wisdom or Folly?
How do you typically respond to correction or advice? Do you lean into it or shut down?
Have you ever mistaken a loud, exciting opportunity for wisdom? What happened?
What helps you tune into God’s voice when distractions are screaming for attention?
Let’s get practical. Here's how to walk in Wisdom starting today:
Spend time daily in God’s Word (even 5 minutes).
Set healthy boundaries—spiritually, emotionally, and financially.
“The wise man built his house on the rock.” —Matthew 7:24
Ask someone you trust: “Is there a blind spot I’m not seeing?”
Receive correction as a gift, not a threat.
“Rebuke the wise and they will love you.” —Proverbs 9:8
Identify what’s stealing your focus (social media, toxic friendships, impulsive spending).
Replace it with truth.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world…” —Romans 12:2
Wisdom doesn’t shout.
She whispers.
She prepares a feast, then gently invites you in.
The choice is yours:
Which house are you stepping into—Wisdom or Folly?
Each moment is an invitation.
Every decision builds your life.
Choose well.
